Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - 5:01pm

June 13th: The all night arts festival Northern Spark returns to Minneapolis and St. Paul, head to the mill city Ruins at sunset to “See the city in a new light. Whether it’s a projection as big as the Mill City Grain Silos or a fleet of glowing bikes circling Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza, the artists of Northern Spark shine new light on familiar places. By the end of the night, you’ll find yourself with an illuminated perspective of the places you thought you knew.”

Then, on the weekend of June 20th, two rocking, awesome events are happening in Uptown and Northeast.

Rock The Garden returns back to the Twin Cities for two days of great music and is quoted “The two best days of summer.” The 2015 line-up features 10 bands ranging from Minnesota punk legends to starts of Afrobeat to scions of rock-and-roll history.

Along with this festival, the 3rd Annual Northeast Food & Brew Jam is coming to you in Minneapolis! The jam features Northeast Minneapolis craft beer, local food trucks, kids’ activities and live music. cozē flats wins top project of 2014 award!

Wednesday, May 20, 2015 - 3:47pm

Cozē Flats, Solhem Companies newest apartment building was just awarded Finance & Commerce Magazine’s Top Project for 2014.

Cozē Flats brought green living and clean modern design to a new class of “micro” apartments in the heart of the city.  Cozē breaks from the traditional “efficiency” apartment model by bringing high-quality design, modern amenities, and stunning views of downtown.  Cozē brings all the advantages of city living at an affordable price. While the apartments may be classified as “micro,” the lifestyle is anything but.

Cozē Flats is an urban gem that fits snugly into the neighborhood.  The building closely responds to the site, taking advantage of the natural slope to maximize solar gain in the apartments and maximize the parking garage layout. To make such a small site a success, the programming and massing design had to fit perfectly.  Every inch of each Cozē apartment serves a purpose, and each apartment is meticulously laid out to maximize light and open space in the floorplan. Cozē uses thoughtful and clean details to open the space to light and air, and to not resort to traditional “efficiency” solutions such as Murphy beds.  The full-size kitchens feature stainless appliances and high-quality granite countertops that create dual-use work/dining space. Cozē’s clean design and bright and welcoming spaces extend to its active, street-front public spaces creating a welcoming, friendly spot to come home to.

taprooms: a taste of local beer (and cider!)

Friday, August 15, 2014 - 1:22pm

Do you like beer? Minneapolis ranks among the top beer cities in America, and now is a great time to check out the large selection of breweries and taprooms scattered throughout the city.  Just a few years ago, primarily through the lobbying efforts of Surly Brewing Company, Minnesota made it legal to brew and sell beer all in the same venue.  Ever since, taprooms have been springing up across the state, offering a great place to kick back and enjoy a beer brewed just steps from your seat.

Ever wonder how beer gets made?  These breweries all offer tours at limited times, giving you a chance to watch craft brewing in action (and maybe try some free samples!).  While you’re visiting, take a beer-filled growler to go, or buy merchandise to support the local brewery.  Check brewery websites for tour times.

What about food?  Although these breweries are not allowed to serve food themselves, most invite food trucks to park right outside their spacious patios, creating a fun atmosphere centered around delicious local food and beer.  Many also host other fun events, including live music, hog roasts, or lawn game tournaments.

Check out these nearby breweries!  Most taprooms are open Thursday and Friday evenings and most of the day on weekends.  Check out their websites for tour times, taproom hours, and special events. Check the map below for locations of each taproom!
